The Citrus County Art League was formed in 1964 by a group of dedicated people interested in adding a cultural dimension to Citrus County. The purpose of the league was, and is, to promote and support the Arts. In 1973, the league was incorporated as a non-profit organization and our dream was to have a building of our own.In 1984, we fulfilled that dream and opened the Citrus County Art League Cultural Center visual arts building.

In 1986, we included live theater in our cultural arts program and began presenting plays in our auditorium. Since that time we have produced over 70 plays and have outgrown the current facility. Our next project is to enhance the cultural opportunities in the county by building the new Art Center Theatre and updating the existing visual arts building.

The Building Project includes a 7,000 square foot, 200-seat theater, and the modernization of the existing Art League Cultural Center.  The cost of this expansion is estimated at $1,000,000.  This project is funded in part by the State of Florida through Florida Department of State, the Division of Cultural Affairs, and the Florida Arts Council.  Additional funds are being raised through private and corporate donations and CCAL fundraising activities. Upon completion, the Arts Center Theatre will bring to Citrus County a comfortable, modern, affordable community theater.

The expanded Cultural Arts Building will offer a renovated facility that includes a public art gallery, educational classrooms, library, meeting area, and kitchen facilities.
